How soon is help needed?
Choose a topic to explore. This is a planning tool, not an eligibility test or a placement decision.
Situation 1 · Planning ahead
Build a backup before it is needed.
Write down daily support needs, familiar routines, and people to contact. Ask about respite, in-home supports, and longer-term options. Check eligibility, approval, and availability rather than assuming a service is ready.
What is our backup if the main caregiver becomes unavailable?
The person, chosen supporters, APD, and any current support coordinator.
Situation 2 · Care cannot continue
Report the change with concrete examples.
Explain the caregiver’s health or capacity, which tasks cannot be done, and what alternatives have been tried. Ask APD whether a crisis review may be appropriate. APD decides whether its requirements are met.
What documentation is needed, and how do we submit it securely?
APD and, for someone already receiving iBudget services, the waiver support coordinator.
Situation 3 · Immediate danger
Use emergency help for an emergency.
If someone is in immediate danger or has a medical emergency, call 911. A waiver request is not an emergency-response service. Once immediate safety is addressed, involve the care team in planning the next supports.
Who can help coordinate support after the immediate emergency?
Emergency services now; the care team and APD for follow-up planning.
